On trying to make presentations more fun

October 3, 2011

My continuing vendetta against Powerpoint. Still trying to work out how to make creds more fun….

This is probably still a halfway house.

How do other people solve this issue?

Wherever possible take boards, scamps, scribbles, anything analogue that you can shake, share, draw on etc. Sometimes takes people aback if you’re talking digital ideas but really helps I find.

Leave behinds are also a good way of embedding creds in something more exciting and palatable – as long as you think properly about the brand you’re talking to and make something bespoke.

I agree, analogue is good in presentations – mostly because it is so unexpected! I took wrapped presents into a pitch once to make a point (although vastly underestimated how long they would take to unwrap considering the presentation was timed … oops!)

This was less about a leave behind, and more about what you send out at first contact (when you can’t go in person). I think the trick will be taking the time to make something, like you say, more bespoke for the people you’re talking to.

I’ll have to wait and see what the reaction is to this one I guess…
